Our Story

cedar hot tub

2009 - 2012

Our first venture into cedar hot tubs was importing flat-packed cedar tubs from China.

These were wood-fired and offered as a kit-set only.

They had their obvious quality problems and were very basic.

2012 - 2017

After a few years of selling the kit-set Chinese tubs, we decided to make the tubs in New Zealand.

While the quality of our New Zealand made tubs were an improvement over the Chinese tubs, there were still issues in building the tub wall/floor out of cedar pieces which still mean't possible leaky issues, lack of insulation and so high running costs, sitting in brown coloured water etc....

Firstly, leaky issues as the tub wall pieces needed to have a 'breaking in' period.

They needed to be filled with water and would leak like a sieve initially before all the gaps between each cedar wall piece would swell up and form a water tight seal.

Lack of insulation meant high running costs.

Also, because of the cedar tannins leeching into the water, it meant sitting in brown water for many months.

2017 - 2023

After a few years of manufacturing traditional cedar tubs, we decided that there had to be a better way to make tubs that were more 'user friendly' with better features and benefits than any other cedar hot tub on the market.

We wanted to retain the beautiful cedar look but utilize the benefits of a leak free, insulated, hygienic and easy to clean molded black shell/liner.

Our 'new generation cedar hot tubs' are a modernized version of the traditional full cedar tubs that were first designed and sold way back in the 1970's.

We believe that our tubs are the best on the market in terms of looks, comfort, ease of use, efficiency etc...

Our very positive customer feedback and ever growing new sales from word of mouth referrals are a testament to this.

2023 - Present

After further design tweaks such as locating the pump system under the seats within the spa wall (quieter, better insulated, no connecting of pipes etc.. so plug 'n' play), a much a more convenient filter location with no valves/air bleeding (easier maintenance) and numerous other improvements, our present day cedar spas we believe are the best on the market!

After many further design tweaks/improvements and an upgraded pump system, our product has further improved and evolved to become the 'CEDAR SPAS' brand.

All our plumbing fittings are now NZ made Hansen products (much more robust and 'sturdy') which are designed for the agricultural/industrial market so won't fail like some of our previously supplied plumbing parts!

Also 2 new models have been added to the range - internal cedar (Model B) and internal stainless steel (Model C).

Our pump system is now located under the seats within the spa wall. The filter is also now located in a much more easily accessible position.

We have also invested in a CNC machine so all our parts are now made 'in house' and to much higher standards as opposed to relying on 'man-made' out-sourced parts.

Soon we will be expanding and selling our beautiful spas into the Australian market. Our Napier made tubs will be exported to our new reseller based in Melbourne, Victoria.

Onwards and upwards!

  • Testimonials

"The spa experience was really good for us. We use it every day - the cedar is so luxurious, way better than any acrylic spa I've been in. We're really happy with the tub."

    Hamish (Mangawai Heads)

    "Love it mate, well done!"

    Duane. T (Melbourne)

  • Testimonials

"We are very happy with our hot tub that we chose, after lots of research, because it combines effective insulation with the good looks of a cedar tub. The woodwork, both inside and out, is of extremely high quality and has a lovely rich colour. The 2-4 seater model is surprisingly roomy while not dominating our small patio area. Also thanks for good communcation and service."

    A. Markham (Wellington)

  • Testimonials

“The pool is great at holding temperature – we turned it off after use about 9pm to see what it would be the next morning, and it had only dropped 1 degree! Our older spa would have been too luke warm to get in with the same test. So very impressed, also with the temp it gets to, and seems to maintain a lot better than our older one”

    Sue & Paul (Auckland)

  • Testimonials

“….we are very happy with it, it’s a great asset to our garden and looks really beautiful with the wood – our family have also commented on it saying it’s a really amazing looking spa.”

    The Evans Family (Auckland)

  • Testimonials

“… used the hot tub as a family for the first time and have truely enjoyed the experience. We are impressed with the insulation of the hot tub, how it keeps the water warm and how quickly it reheats.”
